Your Fit. Your Garment.

Made to Measure

Every ready-to-wear garment in our collection can be ordered in a size built precisely for you.

Your Fit. Your Garment.

Not altered. Made for you.

When you select the Made to Measure option on any garment, you are not choosing a size from a dropdown — you are providing your actual body measurements, from which we construct an individual pattern dedicated entirely to you.

There is no alteration, no padding, no resizing of an existing cut. We begin at the pattern stage. Every seam, every curve, every proportion is drafted specifically for your body.

Once placed, your order goes directly to our design and construction workshop in New York — the same workshop where all garments are made. Because design and construction are under one roof, we are able to adapt your pattern quickly, implement any personal preferences you have noted, and deliver your garment without the delays common elsewhere.

"Because our design studio and construction workshop share the same floor, your personal pattern is drafted, reviewed, and built without the weeks of back-and-forth typical of made-to-measure services elsewhere. When your pattern is ready, your garment follows."

The Process

How Made to Measure works

01

Choose Your Garment

Browse our Ready to Wear collection. Select any shirt, suit, or garment you wish to order. The Made to Measure option is available on every item.

02

Submit Your Measurements

Fill in the Made to Measure form with your body measurements. Use our guide below to measure accurately. Logged-in clients may use saved measurements from their Bureau Passport.

03

We Draft Your Pattern

Our workshop drafts a personal pattern using your measurements. Your preferences — fit preferences, sleeve pitch, collar height — are incorporated at this stage.

04

Garment & Pattern Archived

Your finished garment is dispatched. Your personal pattern is stored permanently in your Bureau file, ready to be used for every future order — no re-measuring required.

Bureau Passport

Your measurements. Always on file.

The Bureau Passport is your personal account within The Clothing Bureau. Beyond order history and saved preferences, it serves as a permanent record of your measurements and your personal pattern.

Log in or create a Bureau account before placing your order to access these features:

Save Your Measurements

After submitting your Made to Measure form, your measurements are saved to your Passport and pre-filled on all future orders.

Use Previous Measurements

Returning clients can select previously saved measurements from their Passport at checkout — no form to fill out again.

Update at Any Time

Your measurements can be updated from within your Bureau account at any point before an order is placed.

Your Personal Archive

A pattern made for you — stored for you

When your first Made to Measure order is placed, our workshop creates an individual paper pattern drafted to your body. This pattern is not discarded after your garment is made.

It is stored in your personal Bureau file — a physical record kept in our workshop. When you place a future order, we pull your pattern, update it for any changes you request, and proceed. This is the foundation of a relationship between a client and a workshop that grows more precise with every order.

Your pattern. Your Bureau. No starting over.

Self-Measurement Guide

How to take your measurements

Use a fabric measuring tape. Stand naturally upright, without shoes, in the clothes you typically wear. Have a second person assist where noted — accuracy at the shoulder and back is difficult alone.

01

Neck

Wrap the tape around the base of your neck, where a shirt collar would sit. Insert one finger between the tape and your neck for comfort ease. This is your neck circumference.

02

Chest

Measure around the fullest part of your chest, under the armpits and across the shoulder blades. Keep the tape horizontal. Breathe naturally — do not expand the chest artificially.

03

Waist

Measure around your natural waist — the narrowest point of the torso, typically just above the navel. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Do not measure at the trouser waistband.

04

Bicep

Flex your arm slightly and measure around the fullest part of the upper arm. This is your bicep circumference. Add approximately 1 inch for comfortable ease if measuring while flexed.

05

Wrist

Measure around your wrist just below the wrist bone. This determines your cuff circumference. Keep the tape just snug enough to slide two fingers beneath it.

06

Arm Length

From the tip of the shoulder (the bony point) to the wrist bone, with the arm slightly bent at the elbow. This is your sleeve length. Best measured by a second person.

07

Back-to-Back Shoulder

Across the upper back, from the edge of one shoulder to the other — shoulder point to shoulder point. This measurement is most accurately taken by a second person from behind.

08

Body Length

From the top of your shoulder (at the base of the neck) straight down to where you wish the shirt to fall — typically mid-seat for a tucked shirt. Measure over a shirt, not bare skin.

09

Thigh

For trouser orders only. Stand with feet slightly apart and measure around the fullest part of the upper thigh, approximately 1 inch below the crotch seam. Keep the tape horizontal.

Note: If you are unsure about any measurement, please contact our concierge at +1 (646) 889 9566 or concierge@theclothingbureau.com. We are happy to guide you through the process.
